Timelines are the graphical elements that explain the story of a project, product, company or event. There is a wide variety of timeline designs that you can download over the internet and you can also search for them in our blog and you will find tens of them. But If you want to create one on your own here are the basics to create a basic timeline in PowerPoint.
- Open a presentation and select a blank slide
- Insert a straight line, Hold shirt and draw it horizontally as long you want it to be
- Now take another straight line and place it vertically and touch one end to the existing line you placed and duplicate(Select the object hold CTRL and drag to duplicate at ease) draw many you want and distribute them evenly as shown in the picture below.
Now you need to add the content. For this example, we are creating a timeline for a medicine development. So to add your content, go to Insert > Select Text box and draw over the lines and start adding your content
- So now that we have the basic outline of a timeline we can crisp it up a bit more with shape format options such as applying arrow ends to the vertical lines as we did to our exciting timeline that you see in the picture below
- You can even spice it up by adding color and applying animations which we will explore in our next set of tutorials. For time being you can download the slides we’ve worked on for this tutorial. If you are stuck while designing use the downloaded presentation, if you have any queries post on comments
