This is the second write up tutorial in our PowerPoint Slide Master Explained series and in this tutorial, we will explore how to create a custom picture placeholder in PowerPoint. So, first of all, we need to learn what is a picture placeholder? As the name suggests its a place where you can insert a picture. But by default, the picture placeholder within in Powerpoint comes in squares or rectangles, so what we are trying to do here is changing that to any custom shapes, for example, a heart shape or a circle, etc. And to do that follow the steps mentioned below
1) Open a blank presentation
2) Hold shift and click on slide view to open slide master
3) Now insert a layout or pick any of the slide layouts you want to edit. For this example, we have inserted a blank layout
4) From the slide master menu Click on Insert Placeholder > Picture and draw a placeholder on the slide
5) Now select the picture placeholder that you’ve inserted > Go to Format > Edit Shape > Select the shape you like, for this example, we selected the heart shape
6) Close the slide master by clicking on slide view or from Side Master menu. Go to Layout > Select the layout you created > You will find the custom picture placeholder on the slide.
7) Click on it to insert your picture.
Now that you learned how to create a custom picture placeholder. Go ahead and create your own customized Picture placeholders and impress your audience. In our next tutorial, we will show you how you can draw custom shapes from scratch.
